Stone, Rip Current, Ryan & Robert Collaboration announced!

For the last 5 years, Stone Brewing Co. has held an American Homebrewers Association (AHA) rally and homebrew competition where attendees sample homebrews and help Stone select a beer to make on the large scale. The lucky winning homebrewer(s) have their batch produced at Stone and distributed widely including being entered at GABF.  Several great local homebrewers have won this honor in the past including our friends: Kelsey McNair and Ken Schmidt (twice).

This year two other friends of the brewery, Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan won the event with their amazing Coconut IPA. We’re very excited for Robert and Ryan as their creative concept and the resulting homebrews were fantastic.   Their recipe has a creative use of coconut along with tropical fruit flavored hops to give the drink a very tropical mix drink flavor profile.  For those familiar with our Bonzer Pale Ale, its similar in many ways except they had the idea of including toasted coconuts!

Today, Stone has just announced (http://blog.stonebrew.com/index.php/2013-collaborations/) their 3rd collaborator for the upcoming Pro/Am collaboration beer. We are honored and absolutely stoked to be part of the project! Thanks so much to Robert and Ryan for suggesting us and Stone for giving us this great opportunity to work together.  This beer will be brewed on Stone’s production system and is expected to be available in the summer.   You can look for it at your favorite bottle shop or at Stone accounts around town.

Best beer at Epic Beer Festival

This past weekend, we participated in our first major beer festival. It was great meeting many of you and helping pour our beers.  The Epic Beer Festival in San Diego had over 80 breweries pouring in excess of 200 beers, so the selection was large and included many good beers. Many of the breweries involved were highly respected, craft breweries from around the country. The event drew 3000 people over the 3 pouring sessions.   We were honored to be pouring along with many established breweries we admire as well as most of the new start-up breweries from around San Diego county.    Festivals like these are a great chance to try many the new breweries that opened during the last year in one sloop :) .

At our booth, we were pouring Lupulin Lust IPA and Barrier Reef Nut Brown (batch 2).   During the event, attendees were able to rate (using a text) each beer they sampled and the results were tallied to determine a best overall beer at the event.   We were thrilled to find out that Lupulin Lust IPA was chosen by you as the best beer at the event’s final session. Thanks to all you stopped by our booth to try the beers.
