San Diego Beer Week (SDBW) is a celebration of craft brewing in San Diego County. This year SDBW runs from Nov 1st (Fri) thru Nov 10th (Sun). See http://www.sdbw.org for a list of the official events. We’re blessed to have nearly 80 great breweries producing beers that in aggregate are the best in the country. Today, we were happy to have been named in the San Diego Reader to the 10 best brewery list in San Diego by noted beer writer Brandon Hernandez.
Back to SDBW, next week you’ll find great beer events including a large number of brewery tap takeovers throughout the county. We are fortunate to have joined forces with many of the top beer bars/restaurants in the county for our 8 tap takeover events. It was tough picking which ones to go with, so we decided to pick 8 that were spread out through the county so we could reach as many people as possible without the event locations competing with each other. Our tap takeover/meet the brewer schedule is the following
Churchill’s Pub in San Marcos
SD Tap Room in Pacific Beach
San Diego Brewers Guild Festival VIP Session at Broadway Pier
San Diego Brewer’s Guild Festival
O’Brien’s Pub in Kearney Mesa
Raglan Public House in Ocean Beach
Sublime Tavern in Del Mar
Hamilton’s Tavern in South Park
Urge American Gastropub in Rancho Bernardo
The Regal Beagle in San Diego
On Wed Nov 6th at 7PM, we are also hosting a beer-n-cheese pairing event. We’ve paired 4 of our beers with amazing cheeses from Brother’s Provisions. Our staff and those of Brother’s Provisions will be present to talk about the pairings. For more information about the event and to buy tickets please visit http://ripcurrentbrothersprovisions.brownpapertickets.com/.
As part of our efforts to make this an incredible week, we’re introducing 4 beers and bringing back one old friend. Wave Ryeder Rye Session IPA (4.5%) makes a return on Friday evening just in time for SDBW and should be available at locations around town during SDBW. Its a nicely hopped, low alcohol IPA for those wanting hops but wanting to have a couple pints. On the new beers, we have 1 big batch and 3 small batch beers. Our big batch beer is Caught in a Rip Triple IPA. This is the most massively hopped beer we have ever made. This beer includes huge citrus, fruity and pine-like hop aroma and flavor and is designed to appeal to super hopheads (which are common in San Diego ).
The three remaining SDBW small batch beers all take one of our line-up and introduces a new twist. Watch our Facebook page for more details but the beers are: Bourbon Oaked Rescue Buoy Russian Imperial Stout, Scotch Oaked Black Lagoon Scottish Strong and Coconut Kona Storm. Each of these beers will be introduced over the 10 days of SDBW at the tasting room and will appear at our tap takeover events.
If that is not enough, we are also introducing a new growler! Starting on Friday, we will be selling beers to go in our new 1 liter growler. This growler is stainless steel made with the same high quality flip top and looks very similar to our current growler but is .. well thinner to hold half the volume. This growler comes with a new to go policy for us. We’ll be allowing any of our big batch beers including those >10% ABV (when we have enough to share) to be filled in the 1 liter growlers. The 2 liter growlers will be used for beers <10%. This means people that have always wanted Vanilla Storm or Caught in a Rip to take home you now have a way to do that (while we have enough).
We hope everyone gets out and enjoys SDBW and we look forward to seeing you at the events and tasting room.
