Calling all artists!

Here are all four boxes (the fourth is to the right of the two blue ones).

Here are all four boxes (the fourth is to the right of the two blue ones).

We’ve got four utility boxes outside our North Park tasting room and we’re looking for an artist (or maybe multiple artists) to paint original designs on them. So we’re having a contest! The winner(s) will create artwork that we hope will be displayed to the public in a high-traffic area for years to come.

Please submit sketches and descriptions of your design concepts by Nov. 1st. You can drop them off at our tasting room or email them to

We also encourage artists to post their ideas on Instagram, tagging @ripcurrentbrewingNP and using the hashtag #RipCurrentArtContest.

The first-place winner gets to paint his or her artwork on the boxes and receive a $100 Rip Current gift card.

Artist is responsible for any necessary prep work and must supply his or her own paint. Non-acrylic paint must be used.

The design should fit the surf, beach and/or brewing vibe of our location. However, no logos are allowed and neither are any depictions of alcohol (bottles, glasses of beer, etc.).

Here's a closer shot of the three boxes that are to the right of our side entrance.

The four boxes are on the south side of our building, which of course is at 4101 30th Street (at Polk Avenue).

From west to east, the approximate dimensions (width x height x depth, in inches) of the four boxes are:

Box 1: 36 x 48 x 39.

Box 2: 49 x 29 x 39.

Box 3: 57 x 57 x 29.

Box 4: 40 x 68 x 11.

The boxes vary a little bit in shape, so feel free to come and look at them if that helps in the design process. Meters on the boxes cannot be painted over.

Preference will be given to an artist who has designs for all four boxes, but we will also consider entries for single boxes.

Judging will be done by the Rip Current staff. Prizes and rules are subject to change.

If you have any questions, please email them to

Rip Current Brewing in North Park is Now Open!

We’re happy to share with you that the tasting room and restaurant (done with our good friends at Sublime Ale House) is now open!  We did a “secret” opening last week trying to keep the crowds to a minimum while we got our act together and the kitchen prepared for their full menu release.  We think we’re ready now for your business (not quite a full food menu yet).  So far we’ve met with a very welcome reception from the locals, so really appreciate it!

Our tasting room is located at:

4101 30th Street

North Park (near intersection with Polk Ave)

San Diego, CA 92104

619 793-4777

We’re testing out our hours evaluating what we’ll want to do longer term.  Right now we’re open 7 days a week roughly 2PM till 10PM depending on the day (longer hours on Thurs – Sat).  To check on our status for any given week, please see our Rip Current Brewing in North Park Facebook page at:

Currently, we have 19 beers on tap including a couple guest beers (thanks to Lost Abby/Port and Benchmark Brewing for our current beers).  You can expect to see some other great beers from the many fantastic breweries in San Diego coming soon

We hope to see you soon!

North Park tasting room is getting close!

We are excited to share new pics of our soon-to-be-open location in North Park!
As you can see our exterior sign went up today on our building rocking some new colors.  The front (corner) entrance is surrounded by roll-up doors allowing us to open up the entire front of the tasting room.
When you enter through the front door, on the left you’ll see a large mural of our brewery on the beach :) .
Just to the right, our 45′ bar is very close to complete. It includes a stainless steel top with stained hardwood trim with reclaimed wood on the front.
The fourth picture shows one of our four TVs that are now installed and connected to Directv.

Happy holidays everyone!

More progress on North Park tasting room/restaurant

Progress continues on our new tasting room and restaurant in North Park. We can’t wait until it opens! As you can see the rolling doors are installed and allow for sun and airflow across the front bar areas. In the back, you can see the primary dining (yes and drinking) area now has lighting fixtures.

If your in the area this week, take a peek through the windows as we’re painting the walls.
